Curriculum
Homework is a flexible and individual instructional responsibility of the teachers of our school system. Purposeful homework varies from day to day with each student, depending upon his educational capacity, potential and need. Whenever homework is given as an assigned oral or written responsibility for the students, it will be based on one or more of the following purposes:
1. As a follow-up to classroom work or to complete unfinished classroom
assignments.
2. To work on projects of short or long term in nature.
3. Research activities in locating facts and data.
4. To extend reading for pleasure and enjoyment
5. To aid students to develop the ability to work independently.
6. To reinforce concepts and skills, to strengthen skills, to build
independent study skills.
Assignments are given at the teacher's discretion, based on these time guidelines:
- Grades 6, 7, 8 - 30 minutes to one hour per night
- Grades 4, 5 20 - 45 minutes per night
- Grades 1, 2, 3 15 - 30 minutes per night at least three assignments per
week
- Kindergarten 5 - 15 minutes per night at teacher's discretion
Here
are some suggested ways parents can help children in their homework
assignments:
1.
Provide a suitable, quiet place for work or study.
2. Supervise and guide rest, eating and play habits.
3. Give encouragement and show interest.
4. Assist with drill work when asked.
5. Do not do the work for your child.
6. If your child had difficulty, encourage him/her to bring the problem to
the teacher's attention.
7. Help your child to carefully plan homework time.
Each student receives a Multiple Intelligence Portfolio/Literacy
Portfolio as well as electronic portfolios. These records can be taken
with them when they leave Bay Head School.
The Middle School level grades are departmentalized in the following
subject areas:
-
Social Studies
- Math
- Science
- Language Arts
There are 5 levels of math, also, for these students. They are Math
I, Math II, Math III, Pre-Algebra, Algebra and Transitional Geometry. |
