Hi, my name is Erin, and I am excited for this project. In this chapter, I felt bad for Sam because of the things his father said to him. I would have to agree with Sam. I don't think it's fair that the Americans had to obey laws made by a country on the other side of the world. The colonists didn't have much of a say in anything. Therefore, I would've been on the Patriots' side during the American Revolution.

We find out in Chapter Two that Mr. Meeker is a pacifist. I think that he is trying to say that nothing is solved with fighting. I felt that this chapter was pretty good. We get to see what goes on at Tim's church ,and we learn a little about his parents. I have sympathy for Tim because he is stuck in the middle between his brother and his father. He sems confused about the war and which side to take.

If I were Tim, I wouldn't tell Father that he came back to Redding becuase I made a promise to Betsy. I also wouldn't want Father and Sam to get into a fight again. Right now, I'm a little suspicious about Betsy. She is always lingering around the tavern and listening to conversations. My prediction is that she could be a spy for the Patriots in the Tory town of Redding. If I were a soldier, I would not fare too well. If I were someone like Tim or Betsy, I might fare well. I felt this chapter was pretty good. I am curious about Betsy's character, and how Sam has been.

1.)I felt concerned when the Patriots came to the Meeker's tavern. I didn't know what would happen to Father and Mother. If I were Tim, I'd probably do the same thing. When Sam took the Brown Bess back from Tim I wasn't really sure what would happen next. 2.) I bet that if Sam had chosen to stay, Father would be happy, but he would probably yell at Sam. 3.) Tim calls Sam a coward because he was angry. Tim went on to say that he didn't actually think Sam was a coward because he fought in the army. I do think that Sam is a bit of a coward. He was to afraid to talk to his own father, and he just ran away from all his problems. -Erin

Chapter Five 1.) Tim's mind was changed when the Rebels searched for weapons in Redding. 2.)That quote is true because we all know some who is affected by the war. If the world is not at peace, it hurts everyone. 3.)I thought it was a little weird that Mr. Heron would endanger Tim's life by wanting to send him to Fairfield. I think he is just acting as a Tory, like an undercover Patriot. Father said that he doesn't make sense. I agree with Father that those papers Mr. Heron wanted Tim to deliver really weren't "business letters".

Chapter Six 1.) I didn't like the fact that Tim went against his father's wishes. All of his lies were getting to be annoying. I don't trust Mr. Heron. It's hard to tell if he is a Loyalist or a Patriot. The fight between Betsy and Tim surprised me. It changed my mind about Betsy. I don't really like her character anymore. 2.) This book is good, and I want to know what is going to happen next.

Chapter Seven 1.)The war is affecting the Meeker family in many ways. Mr. Meeker isn't speaking with his own son who is off at war. Their family is being torn apart. 2.)The war in the Middle East is affecting my family because my cousin's boyfriend was over there, and he came back for a little while. Now he has to go back soon. 3.) I had a strong emotional reaction to this chapter. I hope that Father will be okay, and that nothing happens to Tim. This story is an example of what happened to innocent people during the Revolutionary War.

Chapter Eight 1.) Tim seems to be confused about the war. He is very wishy-washy with the war. He's not sure at all what side he is on. I think that he may end up on the Patriots' side. 2.) I hope that Tim and Father will make it home to Redding safely. I felt bad that they were stuck in the freezing cold. I'm worried that the cattle thieves might come for them on their way back.

Chapter Nine 1.) I think that the cowboys attacked him, and Father is held hostage somewhere. If something bad happened to Father, Tim will have to do a lot more at home. Tim could have some kind of breakdown if he is grief stricken. 2.) I was worried when Tim realized that his father was missing. I don't think that everything is fine.
erin
Feb 17, 2009
Chapter Ten 1.) Tim's statement meant that he didn't understand the point of the Revolutionary War. He felt that the Americans were free, and that the King didn't make them do anything they didn't want to.
erin
Feb 17, 2009
Chapter Eleven
1.) Tim means that Sam just wants to be in the army because it wants to feel important by doing something that has a huge impact on others. 2.)I was mad that Sam re-enlisted for all the wrong reasons Meanwhile, his family needs him at home. I agree with Tim about Sam wanting to be part of something big. I feel bad for Mrs. Meeker because her son is fighting in the war, and her husband is missing.

Chapter Twelve 1.)The quote "In war the dead pay debts for the living." means that the people who die in the war sacrifice themselves for people. 2.)I felt sory for the Meekers when we found out the father died. I wasn't sure how the mother was going to deal with it all. At the end of the chapter, I was worried that Sam was mistaken for a cattle thief.

Chapter Thirteen 1.) Patrick Henry's words may have inspired soldiers like Sam by making them feel radical. 2.) In Chapter 13, I was worried about Sam's verict. I hope that Genel Putnam takes Sam's side.

Chapter Fourteen: 1.) Sam's pending execution is ironic because he fought for the Patriots for 3 years, and now they're going to kill him. 2.) Sam's execution is similar to Mr. Meeker's death because Mr. Meeker was a Tory, and he died on a Tory ship after being taken by Patriot cattle thieves. 3.) I was angry when they decided to execute Sam. Then, I thought it was a little weird when Tim tried to save Sam by attempting to kill the guard. When Sam was shot,I found it sad when Tim was watching.

Epilogue:
1.) The statement means that Tim thought there was another way to become independent other than fighting the war. 2.) I think the US could have become a nation without the war. If we didn't go into the war, we probably would become a country. It would just take longer. 3.) My Brother Sam is Dead was an okay book. It wasn't my favorite, but it wasn't the worst.
