This page will be used to summarize the experience we had with the shared reading of the book, "My Brother Sam is Dead." This should be three small paragraphs describing the following: 1. What do you think the author is trying to reveal to the readers? 2 What did you personally like about the book? 3. Which person from our 'sister' school did you relate to the most or whose comments did you like reading the most?

1. The author is trying to reveal many things in the book, but I think he is mostly trying to say that war is not fair. In war, many things can happen, but you would never think that your own side could kill you, right? War is such a horrible thing that you get killed by the people you have been fighting for, for 3 years! This might sound crazy, but unfortunately it's true. Just like Sam, others get killed. This book had much meaning to me, because it taught me many lessons about war and what life was like during the American Revolution. It wasn’t your typical history lesson, it was a lesson that explained what goes on in an average families life during war. Which trust me, isn’t a very happy thing. It revealed much on how war is not fair, because someone, no matter what gets hurt or killed. The authors revealed much about things I would never think could happen or just never knew. It was a great story that showed me a whole other side of war.
2. I liked many things about this book, but personally I liked how you could picture everything happening in your head. The whole story played out in my mind like a movie. Also, I liked how you could picture the Meeker family, and how they were just a typical family who ended up getting caught up in the war. Every time I opened the book, I never wanted to close it. It was so addicting because you always wanted to know what would happen next. There was never a part of the book that I thought was boring. That is another thing I enjoyed. Not only did I enjoy these things about the book, but also I enjoyed the book as a whole.
3. A person from our “sister” school that I shared most in common with throughout the book was Alyssa. As an example, a couple of her comments agreed that war is never fair and how the war was tearing the Meeker's apart. She included many details to support all her ideas. When I read through everyone’s comments I agreed with 90% of her answers. I also found some common things with others, but mostly with Alyssa. Reading all these answers, also made me think more into things and I thought of stuff I originally hadn’t.

Hi guys,
1) When reading "My Brother Sam is Dead" I noticed how the author explained war in depth. It's not
just about the fighting portion of the war, people have multiple other stuggles behind closed doors.
I think the author's message to the readers is how a war can affect a person, and how it can change regular
people into animals.
2) What I enjoyed most about this book was that I felt like I could compare myself to Tim. It was relatable
in that sense. Tim and I are somewhat alike and it was interesting to see what a kid my age would do
in the American Revoulution. The book always made me feel involved and that's another reason why I thought
it was great.
3) After I finished reading all the BHS students posts, I noticed what person had the closet answers
and who I thought was most like mine. I enjoyed reading Anna's post's because she really described what
she wrote and it wasn't like a two word answer. I love detail and I think thats what her ideas and characters
opinions were based upon.
It has been a great experience working with BHS school! I loved this book and I hope we read another together
in the near future!

Hey everyone,
1.) After reading My Brother Sam is Dead, I think that the authors wanted their message to be that we can get affected by war wherever we are and whoever we are. As we saw in the book, Tim gets more mature because of what the war has done to him. It takes away both his father and his brother and many responsibilities are now his. I also think that the authors are trying to show the different ways war can affect how people act.
2.) The thing I liked most about this book was the personal look into an average family's life. At times I felt what Tim was feeling and I think that its wonderful that an author can make you feel just as the characters do. The conflict kept me interested in a good portion of the book. I like the fact that Tim in not completely sure of what side he is on because it made me want to read more and find out his answer. I also liked that this book casually gave facts about the time of the Revolutionary War while putting a distressed family in the middle of it. I don't know if I would read another book like this, (focusing on the Revolutionary War), but I do look forward to reading a book focusing on a different topic in history. (Milkweed!!!!!)
3.)When reading the posts of the BHS students I agreed with two different people, but the person with opinions that I think matched mine the most is Nicole. I like her ideas on all of the characters and after reading her posts I think she brought up points that I agreed with. I definitely look forward to reading her posts for any other books we read in the future.
