Hi, I'm Sabrina.. : ) My emotional response to that question is a little nervous feeling of what Sam will choose to do. If he will disobey his father or stay loyal to the King. I agree with Sam's point of view because he said that freedom is worth fighting for, and even though fighting is not good, if we never stood up to Britain we wouldn't be the free, and independent state that we are today.

Mr. Meeker's comment about war was a general comment because he said, " you never get rid of injustices by fighting." Meaning there will always be times in life that are unfair, but fighting is not ALWAYS the answer. In this chapter Mr. Meeker was probably trying to get Sam to understand that there are other ways to resolve problems. So far I think the book is good!

    hi, =)
If I was in Tim's place I would tell my father that Sam had come back to Redding because even though I swore to Betsy I would feel very guilty if i kept that from my father. In my head I would not want to tell and break my promise, but in my heart I would feel the need to tell father because if something happened to Sam while he was back home it would rest on my shoulders.

    (part B)
Betsy's role in the story so far is a friend of Tim & Sam. In chapter 3 she also acts as a messenger, taking messages from Sam and reporting them to Tim. My opinion of her so far is that she is definitely on Sam's side and it seems like she is willing to do anything for Sam; even lie and keep information from his family. Overall, I need more information about her family.

    hi-
In this chapter when Mr. Meeker was "interacting" with the Patriots I was very scared for Tim because since Sam was away at war,Tim was very lonely, so imagine how he would feel if something happened to his parents. If I was in Tim's place at that time in that situation I probably would have done the same thing because my parents were in danger. Tim definitely made the right choice by not going in the room where his parents were being threatened, but still finding them help.
When Sam was overpowering Tim and trying to take back the gun, I was angry at him because he wasn't listening to the problem therefore he had no idea why Tim needed the gun. The brothers should have stopped fighting because if the Patriot seriously had strong intentions of killing Mr. Meeker he could have done it by the time Sam and Tim worked things out. I also think that when Tim called Sam a coward he was just caught up in frustration and didn't really mean it. The reason I think that, is because from the start the brothers were always very close and watched out for each other, so I think the fighting is all out of anger. In my opinion I do not think Sam is a coward because he seems to stick up for what he believes in, and going to war is a very courageous thing to do. At the end of the chapter when Mr. Meeker was yelling at Sam to come back I think that if Sam had turned around his father would have told him that he loves him, and he would probably remind him to be careful.

    Hi,
1.)I think what changed Tim's mind was having someone as close to him as Sam, actually in the war because of that it's not just a story its real and Tim is most likely worrying about his brother and if anything happens to Sam it will change Tim's life forever. 2.) The quote by Marya Mannes is very true because in war when people die it doesn't just effect the person, it effects their entire country, family, and friends.
3.) My opinion of Mr. Heron by the end of the chapter was that he is a very sneaky, and mysterious. I think that he shouldn't have agreed with Sam to go behind Mr. Meeker's back. He and Mr. Burr are definitely up to something.

    Hi,
In this chapter Tim was being very oblivious to what Mr. Heron is up to. He was also being stubborn towards Betsy when he refused to let her see the letter. I DO NOT trust Mr.Heron at all so far. He has come across to be a very hard to read, conniving closed off kind of person. My reaction to the scuffle between Betsy and Tim was shocked and nervous because with their best friend and brother at steak I would think they would at least try to work together for Sam's best interest.

    Hi,
When Tim says his brother will never leave the army because he thinks he is part of something big, I think he means that the war is very important to Sam because he is fighting for freedom. Tim is saying that Sam thinks the war is something a lot bigger and greater than what it is. My emotional response to this chapter is worried about what Sam is going to do. I am also upset that Mr. Meeker is deceased.

    Hey,
" In war the dead pay debts for the living." This quote means that people who are fighting in war are sacrificing their lives for the freedoms of the living. Not only was that quote true many years ago, but it is also true now. For example the soldiers who are fighting in Iraq are putting their lives on the line for us, so you could call that a "debt" to the living. My emotional reaction to this chapter is anxious to see what will happen with the Meeker's next.

"Give me liberty or give me death" may have inspired soldiers like Sam because it would give them the inspiration and will-power to keep fighting for their freedom until the end. I think Patrick Henry gave a very inspiring speech that would have spoken to all soldiers, but Sam especially because Sam is a very headstrong. Sam would be very inspired by this speech because he was fighting was for his freedom and liberty. MY LIMERICK... "Give me liberty or give me death" was said by a man who spoke it best.
Patrick Henry delivered this line with passion and conviction, and will be forever remembered among the rest.
Mr. Henry was born on the 29th of May on a lovely spring day.
Throughout his life he gave inspirational lectures of his beliefs, which continue to inspire people today.
On June 6th, he passed away leaving his family, friends, and audiences very depressed.

    Hi,
The irony of Sam's execution is that he was being accused of a crime that he did not commit. In fact, Sam was trying to do the right thing by chasing after the cattle thieves, but still got killed. Mr. Meeker died in a similar ironic way because he also was being punished for something that he had no control over. Mr. Meeker didn't know who his goods were being given to, he was just trying to make money. .Although Mr. Meeker and Sam are now dead I am excited because this ironic twist in the story makes it interesting and gives you a feel of what life was like during the American Revolution. In my opinion neither Sam, nor his father should have been killed.

    The Epilogue:
"But somehow, even fifty years later, I keep thinking there may have been another way, besides war, to achieve the same end."That quote was mentioned in the epilogue. I agree and disagree with this statement, because although there MAY have been a different way to achieve the same end result I think that a war was probably the best way. The reason war was the best way was because there were no doubts with the end result- there would be one clear winner. Another reason why the American Revolution was a good thing was because if we didn't fight in that war we may have still been under British rule, and we wouldn't be the free independent nation that we are today. I liked this novel because it was interesting and thrilling at the same time. Overall, this was not my favorite book but it was very informative and combined history and adventure which made it very exciting. =)
