Hi my name is Joe and I'm 13 years old. I love to play hockey and video games. Sometimes I am the goelie for my team.
In the first chapter of My Brother Sam is Dead I felt sorry for Sam because as soon as he got home from college he started fighting with his Dad.
I would agree with Sam and fight for freedom. How can a King make laws from so far away.

After reading Chapter 2 I think Mr.Meeker was really saying that violence is never the answer to a problem.
In this chapter Sam put Tim in a awkard postion because he asked Tim to lie to his father.I feel sorry for Tim because he doesn't know who's side to be on. I hope in the book things get better for Tim.

If I were in Tim's place I think I would have to tell my Dad that Sam was back in Redding. Maybe by me telling my Dad I could stop my brother from getting hurt in the war. I would really hope that my brother and Dad my be able to stop fighting and get along together.
I think Betsy's role so far in the book is a friend to Sam and Tim. She also is a way for Tim to get information about his brother Sam. I think Betsy is a good friend to have. She seems to be very caring.

In Chapter 4, when Mr. Meeker was approached by the Loyalists, I felt sad for him because I thought he was going to get stabbed. I was afraid for him also. If his son Sam didn't steal his gun he wouldn't be in this position.
If I were Tim, I would have also went to Sam and tried to get the gun back so the Loyalists wouldn't have hurt my Father. When Sam overtook Tim to get the gun back I felt angry with Sam. Tim was only trying to help out his father.
At the end of the chapter when father yelled "Sam, come back, Sam", I think the father's next words would have been stealing my gun was stupid.
Tim calls Sam a coward because Sam was afraid of the Patriots hurting him for not having his gun but wouldn't help his own family. I don't think Sam is a coward because it takes a lot of courage to go to war for your beliefs.

In Chapter 5 Tim's opinion changed because in the previous chapter he saw how close the war can come to him. His Dad being threatened by the Tories proved that the war can touch everyone's life.
Tim learned that the war, even if it is far away still can effect everbody. Food started to become a problem because the soldiers started taking people's cattle and raiding their farms. This left the people worried that they would not have enough food.
I think Mr. Heron is a sly man. I think he was lying to Mr. Meeker. He wanted Tim to do something that would put him in danger.

In Chapter 6 Tim went against his father's orders and visited Mr. Heron and told him he could deliver the letter for him. I didn't like they way Tim acted in this chapter beacuase he lied.
I do not trust Mr. Heron beacuse I don't think he is being honest with Tim.
When Betsy and Tim started to struggle for the letter I hoped that Betsy wouldn't get the letter away from Tim because he might get in big trouble with Nr. Heron.

Chapter 7- The war is effecting Tim's family in alot of different ways. Tim's parents are fighting over whether to answer Sam's letters. His mother wants to write back to Sam and his dad doesn't want her to. The food and supplies are getting low because the soldiers are stealing from the farms.
The war in the Middle-East is really not effecting my family personally but I feel bad for people whose family members are in the war.
I was scared for Tim when the cow boys knocked his dad off the horse.

Chapter 8 I think Tim is really not liking the war. If it wasn't for the war he would be able to see and talk to his brother.
I don't think Tim has really decided which side he is on yet. He sometimes says he's a loyalist but because of Sam he would like to be a rebel too.
I really didn't have an emotional reaction to this chapter.

Chapter 9- I think that Mr. Meeker was captured by the cow boys and put in a dark cold barn and was left there alone.
If this happened then Tim is going to have to get the wagon home to his mom all by himself. Tim is going to be very very scared.
This chapter made me feel sorry for Tim. i was scared for him. I can't wait to read the next chapter to see what happens.

Chapter 10- I don't think Tim really understands what the war is all about. He's trying to figure out why Sam is fighting in the war.

Chapter 11- When Tim says "something big", he means that Sam is going to stay and fight because Sam thinks that this is more important then coming home and taking care of his family.
If feel sorry for Tim's Mom because it looks like her husband died and son is not going to stop fighting in the war.

Chapter-12 I feel the saying "In war the dead pay the debts for the living" means alot of people die for others that they didn't even know.

My reaction to Chapter 12 was sadness for Mrs. Meeker and Tim. They found out about Mr. Meeker being dead.

Chapter 13- Patrick Henry said "Give me liberty or give me death". I think his words would inspire Sam and the soldiers by saying your freedom is the most important thing in the world. It is something you should fight for to your death if you had to.
I felt bad for Sam and was happy that Tim went to see him.

    Patrick Henry Limerick

Patrick Henry was a great man
Whose speech did spread across the land
    Without liberty he said
    We'd be better of dead
So together the colonists did band

Chapter 14 The irony of Sam's execution is that he was about to get killed by the people he was fighting the war with. Mr. Meeker and Sam both would die from the war and it really didn'
t matter what side they were on.
This chapter made me realize how hard it is during a war. There is alot of death for really no reason.

Epilogue I believe that in this statement you wouldn't have been able to achieve the same end if there wasn't a war. People were not willing to meet and talk things through.
I think the United States would not have been able to become a nation without the Revolutionary War. I don't think the two sides would have been able to come to some agreement without violence. This is a sad statement but thats how I feel it would have turned out.

I really liked reading this novel. I learned alot about what went on during the Revolutionary War. It
It was a very interesting book and kept my attention. He was fun to learn about the lifestyle during that time.
