Hi! My name is Chrissy. I love reading and am excited to read this book. I hope everyone likes this book too.
Personally, if I were in Sam's postion, I would be torn between freedom and family. This whole situation is unfair to do to Tim because now he has to live in an environment with tension, which is unhealthy for a growing child/young adult. I agree with Sam because Britain shouldn't have all the control. People should have the freedom to say what they feel without someone telling them their opinion is wrong. Being wayed down by someone "better" than you, only encourages you to fight for freedom more. I hope everyone liked the first chapter!
Chapter 2
In Chapter 2, I think it is mainly directed on Sam's father and questioning where Sam is. Of course if you read the ending to Chapter 2, we find out where he went. I also think Tim is getting more worried for Sam and is feeling guilty about lying to his father. I hope everyone enjoyed Chapter 2 and is looking forward to reading more.
I think Mr. Meeker's comment about injustice can't be solved with fighting is basically saying you can't solve
things with violence and war. I think Mr. Meeker has experienced war and seen what it has done to family's loved ones
so he may be against it.

If I were in Tim's postion, I probably wouldn't tell my father that Sam would have to come back to Redding,
just because I wouldn't want to get stuck in the middle of all the drama and I wouldn't want to look like
I am choosing a side. I think Betsy's role in the story is to tell Tim that its O.k. Sam is hiding out and not to tell anyone.
I'm not that fond of Betsy, but I want to see how her character progresses. If I was living in the American Revolution I would feel
a little worried to see how the outcome is with the battle between Britain and it's colonies. So I probably wouldn't fare well. Especially if my brother and father
were on seperate sides. In my opinion this chapter was good, but I am excited to read what will happen next.

Chapter 4
When the rebel officers were "interacting" with Mr. Meeker, I was afraid and I thought they would shoot
him and Tim wouldn't have a father and it would be more guilt on him for knowing where Sam was. I felt awful
when Sam took the gun back because his father could have gotten killed but Sam didn't want to get hurt, so
he spared his fathers life. I think if Sam decided to stay, Mr. Meeker probably would have been excited and
telling him to go back to college. I think Tim calls Sam a coward because Sam is afraid about what his "friends"
will do to him. Pearsonally, I think Sam is being somewhat of a coward but if I was going to be hanged for any false doing
I think I would be a little scared myself.
I loved this chapter because it was chock full of action and I hope the book continues to stay great!

Chapter 5
I think Tim's feelings changed about war because he had now been seeing what it was like to be interrogated
by the British rebels, in the previous chapter. War affects all people because even if you have nothing to do with
the war, in a way, you still are living in a time of war. Where people can't be at peace with each other. My thoughts
on Mr. Heron is that he is somewhat judging of people. He judged Sam for fighting on the Patriots and he doesn't want Tim
to end up like Sam, which I don't think is any of his buisness. Although I found that rude, I think he just cares for Tim
and he even offered him a job, which shows some form of care. Over all, I really enjoyed this chapter. This book really makes
you feel like you are in the American Revolution.

Chapter 6
My opinion about Tim in this chapter, is that he basically doesn't know what to do. He is confused about
who he should "side" with. On one hand, he loves his father dearly, but on the other, he wants to earn respect
from his brother Sam. In this chapter I'm on the fence about Mr. Heron. I don't think anyone should fully
trust him, yet. You never know. He could possibly just want to see if Tim could help him, or it could be some
plot created by the Patriots, this is still war. The "interaction" between Betsy and Tim wasn't very shocking to me
I knew she would do pretty much anything to get that letter, just like she would prevent Tim from telling anyone
where Sam was. I think she is a spy for the Patriots. All in all, great chapter, but I'm starting to see some characters
imerge. I really am anxious to see what happens next!

Chapter 7
I think the war is affecting Tim's family because they are slowly being torn apart. They are having disputs
about Sam and Tim is feeling confused and is having mixed feelings about the war. War is never a good thing to deal
with especially if your family member is going through it. What's happening in the middle east affects my family
because when we hear about something tragic happening to someone, even if we don't know them, it still hurts a little.
Reading about the things some of our troops had to go through really makes us feel blessed. We have great heros fighting
for our country. My emotional response to this chapter is that I am still trying to get a feel for what Tim is going through
and at some moments it can be heart wrenching. This chapter has gotten me more interested about what will happen next.

Ch. 8
I think Tim wants to be a Patriot, I just have a gut feeling about that. I sort of think he is jealous of
his brother, but knows what he is doing is wrong. Tim may still be confused, but I think he wants to be a Patriot.
I loved this chapter because it had my mind thinking about Tim and what he is feeling and going through.

Ch 9
I think Mr. Meeker was attacked and captured. I think the "rebels" might have killed him and I am scared
for his life. If Mr. Meeker dies, that is another added pressure on Tim. Not only would he not have a father,
but he would also have to take on the responsiblities of being the "man" of the house. This chapter was suspensful.
I just really need to know what happened to Mr. Meeker, I don't want him to die, but this suspense is kiling me.

Chapter 10
I think Tim's statement means that he doesn't really think he is involved in the war. Im not quite sure
about the full meaning, but I can get a depiction of what he is saying. He may just be confused himself, but I
can't wait to see how it turns out.

Chapter 11
When Tim says he thinks Sam is apart of "something big" I think he means that Sam just wants to have a title,
not sincerly fighting for the honor of your country. He may just want to look "tough" or manly. I think Tim
can see through Sam, but I think Tim is still jealous of him.

Chapter 12
I think the statement, “In war the dead pay the debts for the living", means that the soldiers in war, are
willing to fight for us, and that our everyday mistakes and sins are symbolized as debts, but I think
the soldiers in war have done so much I think war symbolizes the debt, and once they sacraficed the most
important thing, life, is when their debt is truly lifted. My emotional response to this chapter is that
I was sad, not knowing what really is going to happen to Sam. I am also upset about what happened to Mr. Meeker.

Chapter 13
I think the phrase "give me liberty or give me death!" could really inspire someone like Sam, because
if you are so determined to reach your goal (in this case, liberty) you will do whatever it takes to get there.
My emotional response to this chapter is that I am hoping that they don't exceute Sam, it would be another
loss for Tim and his mother, I think it would be a horrible experience.

Patriotism was something Patrick Henry kept
He pushed on through hardship and raised his head
"Give me liberty or give me death!"
Those were the words that determined man said.
War had been hard, but it was something he had to accept.

The irony of Sam's death was that he was framed for something he didn't even do, which is unfair. They didn't
even put him on trial. I think it's similar to what happened to Mr. Meeker because they both were killed for
one reason, it's war. I was shocked that Sam was killed by the Patriots, I was scared and reading about his
execution really made me feel badly for Tim. I couldn't imagine having to take on a great deal of work, then finding
out your father is dead, then having to watch your brother die. I just hope Tim pushes on and can be strong.
