I didn't like the arguments Sam and his father were having, either. I felt badly for the Mr. Meeker, because in my opinion...he wanted what was best for his son. I understand that Sam felt very strongly about serving his country, and I too would have been a Patriot...but I think he should have shown more loyalty to his father.

Hey! My name is Salvatore. I'm 12 and I love playing sports. I mainly like to play baseball and basketball; I like hanging out and having a good time... so get to know me.
My emotional response for the first chapter is that I don't like how Sam and his father always fight with each other. This really gets me annoyed; they're suppose to love each other. I agree with Sam because he wants to serve his county and do what he can to help.
I can't wait till we read this book!!!
I'm looking forward to talk to you as we read this book some more.

Mr. Meeker's comment is a comment of war in general because if you get into a fight, war will not end it.
Mr. Meeker doesn't want his son to fight because he doesn't want him to get injured. Sam is trying to tell his father that there is sometimes that you have to fight for your freedom.
In chapter 2 they mainly just told us what its like were he lives. It wasn't that interesting to me.

If i was in Tim's place, I would not tell my father that Sam had come back to Redding because I would not want them to start fighting again.
Betsy's role in the story so far is that she sort of informs Tim of what Sam is doing. Betsy seems like a very sneaky character.
If I was living at the time of the American Revolution, I think i would fare nicely.

When the Patriots were interacting with Mr. Meeker, I thought that they were going to kill him. . If I was Tim I would do the same thing he did because i would not want them to injure father. When Sam overtook the gun from Tim i was very mad because Tim is trying to save his father.
Father had said "Sam. come back, Sam." After this i think father would have said We love you.
In my opinion Sam is not a coward because he is risking his life trying to save his country.

In chapter five, Tim says, "The war has always seemed like a story---something that happened in some faraway place or faraway time, and didn't have anything to do with me."I think his feelings changed because he didn't know many people in the war.
This quote is true because even if your not in the war you might know people in the war and its an emotional time.
My opinion on My. Heron is that i think he is a very sneaky guy. He says that he just wants Tim to deliver "business letters" but that seems a little fishy to me.
I can't wait to see what else is to come!

My opinion on Tim's actions was that I think that he made a terrible decision to trust Mr. Heron by attempting to take the letter to Fairfield. I do not trust Mr. Heron because he is clever and sneaky. My reaction to the struggle was that i couldn't believe Betsy wanted to see that letter so bad. I was shocked. I wonder what Sam will do about this if he is told. Chapter six got me more interested in this book.

The war is making there family to start to fall apart. They now are having trouble with bringing their cattle to Verplancks Point to trade because of Cow-Boys. What is going on in the Middle-East is affecting my family because we feel sad for all the people who are dieing for us.

Tim thinks that war is not a good thing to do and that there should be a better way to solve their problems. Tim has not made up his mind on what side he is on because he doesn't know which side is fighting for a better reason. I am glad that they finally got there cattle there safely.

I think Mr. Meeker was captured by the Cow-Boys and they are going to injure him. This will have a huge impact on Tim because he is the only person Tim can talk too. I just feel sad for Tim because he might lose his father.

"I still hadn't figured out what he was fighting for. It seemed to me that we'd been free all along."When Tim said this he meant that he feels free because the war hasn't really affected him. So he doesn't know what Sam is fighting for. This is what Tim's statement means.

When Tim says that Sam is part of "something big", He means that it's important. His family needs Sam home right now but Sam feels that he needs to stay in the war. When he told Mrs. Meeker that he wants to reenlist, Mrs Meeker was very emotional. In the end, she accepts the fact that Sam won't change his mind. This chapter was very emotional because Sam had some home for the first time in two years.

What I think the statement "In war the dead pay the debts for the living" means is that the people who have sacrificed their lives and have died for us have given us what we have today. Without them life would be much different today. This chapter was very emotional ecause it tells us that Mr. Meeker has died.

I think that the Patrick Henry's quote "Give me liberty or give me death!" might have inspired the soldiers like Sam. This statement means that your either going to gain liberty or you will die. This chapter was pretty good.

Patrick Henry Limerick:
Patrick Henry was a great lad,
There were somethings that made him mad.
He said, "Give me liberty or give me death!",
This made everyone take a deep breath,
He must have had an inspiring dad.

The irony of Sam's dead was that he was accused of stealing his own cattle while he was chasing the real cattle thieves. He also served in the war on their side and they are going to kill him. It is similar to what happened to father because they both died for doing nothing wrong.

In the Epilogue TIm says, "But somehow, even fifty years later, I keep thinking there might have been another way, besides war, to achieve the same end." I do not think the United States would have become a nation without the Revolutionary War because Britain would have kept taxing them.
This novel showed us how war can affect families and that no one wins in war. I think this novel was boring in the beginning, but as I read more it got more interesting. Overall it was a good novel.
