Hello again, just when you thought it was safe to go back to the wiki, I'm back; and I am glad to be here too. Everyone did a wonderful job with our first joint wiki page. (My Brother Sam Is Dead) I know my students enjoyed reading and listening to comments by each other and the students from St. Al's.
All the rules still apply, each one of us is responsible for our own comments and respect is to be shown to all. All opinions based on research are valid. We are going to be learning about the Constitution, one of the most important documents ever written. It should be fun, so strap on your brain and get ready to argue.

The first amendment to the Bill of Rights deals with protecting our freedoms of speech, press, religion, our right to petition the government and our right to assemble. The first assignment for those selected will be to write a brief definition of the freedom assigned. They will find a court case where the amendment is challenged and link that website to their page. They will explain the challenge and defend one side of the argument. They are to create a new page for their defense and title it appropriately so that others can locate it with minimum effort.

Here is an example: The twenty-seventh amendment to the Constitution states, " No law varying the compensation for the services of the Senators and Representatives, shall take effect, until an election of Representatives shall have intervened."
Simply put this means: Any changes to Congressional salaries cannot take place until after the beginning of the next term of office of the Representatives. This amendment was added to the Constitution in 1992 and was almost immediately challenged when the Congress received a cost of living raise. Here is the website pertaining to the case. http:www.claremont.org/projects/pageID.1828/default.asp
My summary can be found on the page titled, 27th amendment/salaries/Mr. Kennedy.

Three different students will be given the same assignment as above. Please follow the same format. Be ready to discuss your cases, amendments and positions on Friday.
