I am very excited about working on this project. I have been monitoring the success of the collaboration between Bay Head School and St. Aloysius School. I look forward to continuing this process with the exciting topic of the U.S. Constitution.

The first amendment to the Bill of Rights deals with protecting our freedoms of speech, press, religion, our right to petition the government and our right to assemble. The first assignment for those selected will be to write a brief definition of the freedom assigned. They will find a court case where the amendment is challenged and link that website to their page. They will explain the challenge and defend one side of the argument. They are to create a new page for their defense and title it appropriately so that others can locate it with minimum effort.

Here is an example: The twenty-seventh amendment to the Constitution states, " No law varying the compensation for the services of the Senators and Representatives, shall take effect, until an election of Representatives shall have intervened." Simply put this means: Any changes to Congressional salaries cannot take place until after the beginning of the next term of office of the Representatives. This amendment was added to the Constitution in 1992 and was almost immediately challenged when the Congress received a cost of living raise.
