The First Amendment protects our five basic freedoms as citizens of the United States: a) religion b) speech c) press d) assemble e) to petition the government
We have the freedom to say what we whatever we want, also known as the freedom of speech. Although, we are not protected by the First Amendment if we say thing that have to do with obscenity. Here is a definition of freedom of speech:
"...Despite the constitutional guarantee of free speech in the United States, legal systems have not treated freedom of speech as absolute. Among the more obvious restrictions on the freedom to say just what one likes where one likes are laws regulating incitement, sedition, defamation, slander and libel, blasphemy, the expression of racial hatred, and conspiracy."
